It wasn't to be but Matt and Aliona put on an amazing performance giving them the runners up spot on Strictly Come Dancing 2010.  Well done Matt and Aliona you were both fantastic and gave us a truly exciting final and fitting end to one of the best Strictly Come Dancing series ever.

THE FINAL - WEEK 12 - VIENNESE WALTZ

Once again Matt and Aliona rose to the occasion and put in a spellbinding performance of their Viennese Waltz which was even better than the first time they danced it gaining 37 from the judges with Alesha giving them another score of 10.

THE FINAL - WEEK 12 - PASO DOBLE

Matt's Paso Doble was strong, masculine and powerful with fabulous arm movements that fitted the song 'Don't let me be misunderstood' perfectly.  He scored a total of 35 from the judges.

THE FINAL - WEEK 12 - SHOW DANCE

Matt and Aliona did a spectacular show-stopping Showdance!  It was full of acrobatics, hip hop with a little Cha Cha thrown in.  Although there was mixed reviews from the judges they all agreed it was energetic and entertaining and it will certainly be a showdance to remember!

THE FINAL - WEEK 12 - SAMBA

Just when you thought Matt's Samba at Blackpool couldn't get any better he came out first on final night and did an amazing routine that the Strictly studio audience thought was perfect.

Alesha and Bruno gave them a deserved 10 but Len and Craig gave them 9's, much to the bewilderment of those watching.

SEMI FINALS - WEEK 11 - TANGO

Saturday night we saw Matt and Aliona dance the Tango and what a Tango it was!

The audience gave them a standing ovation and stamped their feet to show their appreciation ..... a Strictly first!

The judges loved it too giving them a total of 38, with Len and Alesha giving them tens.  The audience weren't pleased though, they booed Craig and Bruno when they gave them nines!

SEMI FINALS - WEEK 11 - SALSA

What can you say about Friday night?

Matt and Aliona did an energetic Salsa to Kylie's 'I'm Spinning Around' which impressed the studio audience but not the judges who gave them 28!

After their harsh comments there was an instant backlash on the forums, twitter and this website from hundreds of viewers who loved Matt's dancing.

WEEK 10 - JIVE

Groovy baby!  Matt and Aliona powered their way into the semi finals with a great Jive with the theme of Austin Powers for Strictly's special movie week.  They managed to get a great score of 35 putting them joint third on the leaderboard.  Their routine got the biggest gasp of the night as Matt somersaulted off the judge's table, over the steps and onto the dance floor...... not easy in cuban heels!

WEEK 9 - AMERICAN SMOOTH

What an American Smooth.... and what a standing ovation in the studio!  It was probably one of the most enthusiatic ovations of the series so far.

The judges were split but the public definitely loved their modern American Smooth to Alicia Keys' 'New York'.  It earned them a score of 33 and another spot in the all important top three.

Next week is movie week and Matt and Aliona have the energetic Jive and not much training time.  Good luck to Team Mattiona!

WEEK 8 - SAMBA

What a Saturday night in Blackpool!  It saw them get not only one perfect score of 10 but 2!  Thanks Alesha and Bruno!  Matt and Aliona finished top of the leaderboard with an amazing score of 38 for their sizzling Samba. The judges loved their routine to 'Young Hearts Run Free' at the Tower Ballroom and the audience went wild for Matt's backflip finish.    Safely through to next Saturday they will be dancing the American Smooth  - you can also catch them on It Takes Two with Claudia on Friday.

WEEK 7 - RHUMBA

This week saw Matt and Aliona perform a sexy and sensual Rhumba which scored a fantastic 35 for the second week running.  After going through on Sunday's results show they will be heading to the home of ballroom....... Blackpool!  Matt will have to dance either a Samba or American Smooth in a Vegas themed edition of Strictly.

WEEK 6 - VIENNESE WALTZ

Matt and Aliona twirled their to second on the leaderboard with a fantastic score of 35 from the judges.  Their routine was beautiful and romantic and saw them safely through to next week on the Sunday night and luckily Matt managed to combat his feeling of nausea and make it through the routine.  Matt is dancing the often tricky rhumba next Saturday and seems to be enjoying training so far (even if he is trying to squeeze it in between Countryfile and the One Show).  Tune in to BBC1 on Saturday at 6pm to see if he can impress the judges again.

WEEK 5 - ARGENTINE TANGO

In a Halloween special we saw Matt perform the Argentine Tango to 'Bat Out of Hell' and score a fabulous 34.

The routine was not without incident though with Aliona catching her heel in her dress and finding it difficult to free herself so that a section of intricate footwork had to be missed out entirely.

Matt looked fantastic as he lifted Aliona and even won a few extra fans with his red hair and 'guyliner'!  They are safely through to next week.

WEEK 4 - CHARLESTON

Wow!  What a crowd pleaser Matt and Aliona's Charleston was!  With a circus theme Matt wore a very fetching moustashe and Aliona was a pretty ballerina.

Matt began the routine impressing us with his unicycling skills and continued to perform a wonderful, fun and energetic routine that earned him his highest score so far of 35.  Well done Matt and Aliona!

WEEK 3 - QUICKSTEP

With a dance that saw them score 31 for the third week in a row, Matt looked rather dashing in black tails as he danced a fast paced and technical quickstep with Aliona. Phew.... we were tired just watching!

WEEK 2 - FOXTROT

Matt set hearts a flutter with his sexy foxtrot!  Looking handsome in a velvet jacket he scored another impressive 31 from the judges and once again was safely through on the Sunday.

It was another side to him that people hadn't really seen before showing that he could do serious as well as fun.  It was a different take on a foxtrot and the Strictly crowd seemed to love it as he got another standing ovation.

WEEK 1 - CHA CHA CHA

What an amazing start!  Right from the beginning Matt and Aliona looked the part..... Matt with his country checks and binoculars and Aliona in her wellies!  A fantastic routine to 'Aint no Mountain High Enough' left the judges and audience open mouthed and on their feet cheering and gained Matt a very impressive first score of 31!  Matt and Aliona were safely through to next week and proving that they are serious contenders this year.
